6 Mile Run

by Court under Journal

I haven’t been on a long run for a LONG time. Next Saturday I’m running the Spartan Beast race in Midway, Utah, so I figure I better put at least a few miles in. So, I woke up this morning and ran for six miles. I’m not gonna lie, I felt terrible. My time was 46:55.

I feel like my time was ok, especially considering I haven’t been for a run like that for years. The closest thing was running a 5k (3.1 miles) back on May 15 at the gym.

I did the run in a fasted state and that may be the reason I felt so terrible. I’m definitely going to eat before the Spartan Beast since it’s twice as many miles with a lot of obstacles.

    Court,

Even if you felt terrible, this is a very respectable time. I have been an avid runner since my teens. I hit 50 last year and running is still my all time favorite exercise. I spend more time sprinting in the grass rather than long runs. I have found that sprinting 3 times a week, I ran for a couple of hours on the trail anytime that I want. My wife turned me on to Mercola.com and I found the Peak 8 work out. In a nut shell, you do 30 second sprints as hard as you can. Rest for 90 seconds and repeat again for a total of 8 times. I vary routine by going to gym and doing the sprints on a recumbent bicycle.
