How To Get Skinny Fast
Ironically, when most people attempt to get skinny quickly, their weights generally follow a pattern similar to this:

As you can see, when people first start trying to get skinny, they are usually successful for a week or maybe two. However, usually people are employing cheap tactics that won’t work indefinitely. Usually they are trying to eat a lot less and that results in quick weight loss for one or two weeks.
The problems caused by this type of approach are pretty predictable. Very few people can continue to lose weight while following this type of approach. This generally happens for a few reasons:
- The foods they choose do eat don’t help them to control their appetites.
- They choose to eat foods that contribute to fat gain. When this is the case, you can lose weight while gaining fat. Bad news.
- Diets too low in calories contribute to metabolic issues and hormonal weight gain. Read more about that here.
If we analyzed each point on this typical graph, we could learn a lot about what happens physiologically and mentally when people are ‘in a hurry’ to lose weight.
In week 1, you are full of mental strength. That makes it easy to lose, say three pounds (some people of course lose a lot more). After your success of the first week, your mental strength will be even better so in week 2, you may lose three more pounds. By then you will be stoked so in the third week, your stamina will stay steady. However, this is when your body will start to fight this approach and that might lead to a stall. Usually when people hit a stall, it causes a lot of trouble. Since their bodies really start to crave food at this time, there’s usually a let down. Between week four and week five you struggle to gain control of your body and you have a lapse.
Your low calorie diet has set your body up hormonally to store every ounce of food so this lapse will lead to a lot of fat gain. When you end up at 151 in this graph, you have a few pounds of fat more than you did at 150 when you started. The next week you gain again and end up at 152. Panic sets in. You get it together for two more weeks and lose six pounds. At the beginning of week eight you are at 146. Your cravings skyrocket and you lapse again for two weeks and end up heavier, with more fat than you had when you started.
You ‘get it together’ for a few more weeks, followed by some more lapses.
For most people, this cycle continues indefinitely. Sadly, as you can see in this graph, while most people try to drop quick weight, they are creating an upward trend where the actual momentum is WEIGHT GAIN. Yikes. This effect is especially nasty when girls try to gain weight fast because hormonally they can gain more in their lapses.
How To Get Skinny Fast While Staying In Control
Instead of going on a low calorie diet, I would recommend learning how to have a healthy, nutritious diet that provides plenty of calories without stimulating weight gain. As the regular followers of The Skinny School know, I recommend going with either a slow-carb diet or a paleo diet. They will both provide you with ample nutrition and will help you to lose weight while eating plenty of calories.
If you have really damaged your body through excess dieting, you may need to go through the process of learning how to increase calories without gaining weight. Going through this process while eating healthy, nutritious foods can heal your body and get you back on the right track.
Once you can learn how to maintain and control your weight with food, you can start to burn fat through exercise. Your body will be set up perfectly to let go of fat.
How To Exercise For Maximum Skinnyness
Intense exercise will help you to lose fat quickly while maintaining muscle, a key factor in continual, steady fat loss. A few weeks ago I wrote an article that will help you to learn the exercises that contribute the most to weight loss. I would recommend taking a look at some of those and implementing them.
If you will follow this pattern, your weight loss should look more like this:

The most beautiful part about this graph is that in week 14, your body will be healthier and more willing to let go of fat than it was when you started. Contrast this to the first graph where your body is set up perfectly to gain weight.
Many people aren’t ready to undertake healthy weight loss. They will instead want the quick fix and they may have to go through a few crappy cycles before they are willing to do it right. If that’s the case for you, come back when you’re ready.
